Our Basketball Curriculum Elementary kids playing basketball

Students will learn teamwork and leadership skills, as well as practical basketball lessons on proper shooting form and the tripe-threat position. We will be working on the fundamentals of the game including dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense.

Students will have the opportunity to earn a colored bracelet for each skill level they master.

Level 1 (Yellow) – dribbling with dominant hand, chest and bounce passing, overhead pass, a layup with the dominant hand, jump stop, and triple threat position. 

Level 2 (Green) – dribbling with non-dominant hand, dribbling while running, one-hand bounce pass, baseball pass, defensive slides, pivot footing, setting a screen, layup with the non-dominant hand and 1-free throw.

Level 3 (Blue) – dribbling change of direction, dribbling crossover, spider drill, reverse layup with dominant hand,10-foot jump shot, give-and-go, 3 free throws in a row, boxing out, and rebounding.

Level 4 (Marble) – dribbling behind the back, through the legs, switching on screens, reverse layup with non-dominant hand, pick and roll, 5 free throws in a row, and 3-point shot.

About our Basketball Director 

Basketball Coach John MariniBasketball director Coach John Marini has a strong desire to teach others how to play the game he grew up loving. He has several years of coaching experience with middle and elementary school children and likes to stress the fundamentals.

He earned all-area honors as a player in high school before getting a scholarship to play in college. He was a four-year letter player in college and spent the final three years of his career playing for UCF.
